Acquiring the total hours for supervised cases can extend time to graduation based on patient needs, availability, or treatment factors that do not meet minimum requirements for graduation.
Generally, courses meet virtually, via Zoom video conferencing, on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, with some exceptions for electives based on the availability of the instructor.
Semesters are about 4 months long (mid-August through mid-December and mid-January through mid-May)
Yes. Applicants to the PCC’s advanced post-graduate training programs must be licensed to do clinical work in North or South Carolina, depending on where they reside. This can be a provisional license.
Individuals from various educational and professional backgrounds are eligible to apply for training as matriculated academic students in the psychoanalysis training program. Nonclinical academic students undertake personal psychoanalysis or psychoanalytic psychotherapy and participate in the required curriculum.
A personal psychoanalysis or intensive psychoanalytically oriented psychotherapy is a critical component of the Training Programs and is required.
The psychoanalytic psychotherapy training program requires either a current or completed psychoanalysis/intensive psychoanalytically oriented psychotherapy.
The psychoanalysis training program requires a psychoanalysis during training with either a training analyst or a psychoanalyst approved under our training analyst waiver procedures.
Currently the PCC has a child/adolescent program in the psychoanalysis track, and we are currently evaluating our curriculum and hope to develop a child focused psychoanalytic psychotherapy program in the future.
Minimum of 225 hours of coursework.
Supervision: 2 cases meeting at least 2x week for 2 years, minimum of 75 hours per case.
Designed to introduce psychoanalytic ideas and theories for use in psychotherapy.
Minimum of 500 hours of coursework.
Supervision: 3 cases meeting at least 3x per week with a minimum of 50 hours per case. Each case must reach a deep engagement in the work, and one needs to approach termination phase.
Personal analysis required during training.
A focused training program for child/adolescent analysis is available.

The fees will vary, but an approximate cost for one year = $2,481
Training Program Annual Fee – $250
Tuition: Two semesters, four 16-week courses x $510 – $2,040
PCC Professional Membership (discounted for students) – $150
Discounted Subscription to the Psychoanalytic Electronic Publishing website – $41
Fees for supervision and personal treatment are negotiated between the student and the individual analysts/psychotherapist and are not paid to the PCC.
The full cost of psychoanalytic training will depend largely on these fees, which are very much contingent upon personal circumstance.
The PCC offers grants, fellowships, and scholarships to help offset some of the costs associated with training.
