Expanding Spaces, Expanding Hope: The Lucy Daniels Center’s Growth and Its Meaning for Children’s Mental Health
The Lucy Daniels Center in Cary is expanding to meet the growing mental health needs of children and families across the Triangle. Supported by new funding and community partnerships, the Center will nearly triple its size, adding space for therapy, testing, and professional training.
The expansion is designed to bring multiple services together under one roof, offering families a more integrated experience that combines mental health care, speech therapy, and psychological assessment. For clinicians and trainees, it also provides opportunities to learn and practice in an environment that values depth, reflection, and collaboration.
Founded by Dr. Lucy Daniels, the Center has long stood for the belief that emotional understanding and relational support can transform lives. Her work grew from a personal understanding that meaningful growth often emerges through facing life’s challenges with openness and courage.
This expansion reflects the kind of comprehensive, developmentally attuned care that children and families need. It also serves as a reminder that mental health care flourishes when it values relationships, continuity, and access alongside evidence-based practice.
As the new space takes shape, the Psychoanalytic Center of the Carolinas celebrates this important step forward for the community. It represents not only physical growth, but a deepened commitment to creating spaces—both within and beyond therapy—where children and families can be seen, supported, and understood.
